Physical Science students simulate the decay of a radioactive element and its half-life another way: the intact Twizzler represents a group of atoms. It is cut in half, weighed, and measured again and again. When too small to weigh or measure, all of the atoms have decayed.

Physical Science students are simulating the radioactive decay of an element. This is a random event that is represented by the coin flip. Heads-up, the atom decays; tails up, the atom doesn't decay. The data is used to calculate how long radiation would persist.

Students in Mrs. DeReu’s English 3 Honors classes had to think about leadership and decision making prior to starting Lord of the Flies by coming up with good and bad qualities of leaders as a group, choosing survival decisions individually, and regrouping to come to mutual agreements on survival choices. We then discussed how difficult decision making and leadership can be.
