MANLIUS — The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) FY 23 application is open, As part of this procedure, the Bureau Valley School District will undertake a process to assess the various needs facing the communities. The process involves gathering information from parents and community members, while reviewing district data and statistics to isolate those concerns and develop a district plan and three separate grants (Title I, II, IV).
The Bureau Valley School District is beginning this process with our stakeholder groups to be conducted April 21. Underlying this work is the Illinois State Board of Education vision that states: Illinois is a state of whole, healthy children nested in whole, healthy systems supporting communities wherein all citizens are socially and economically secure. The new ESSA legislation gives Bureau Valley the opportunity to contemplate what is meant by “the whole child,” and from this, to consider the type of programming that will support the strengths and needs of each and every child.
Community members are asked to participate in this facilitated group discussion located at the district office. The discussion should take no more than 60 minutes, and nothing more will be required of participants.
Stakeholder meetings will be held at the following locations and times:
• Bureau Valley Manlius District Office, 8:30 am, Thursday, April 21.
Please email aharper@bureauvalley.net with any questions.
An alternative option is provided through three online surveys (for Title 1, Title 11, and Title IV). To access these surveys go to www.bv340.org.

Good Evening Storm Families, An important district message has been shared to your email. Have a great week, Storm Family!

February 28, 2022
Dear Storm Students, Staff, and Families,
With deep sadness, I inform you of another significant loss in our district and our community. We learned of news that Valerie Frese, a 5-year-old Lighted Way student from Sheffield, passed away at her home after her long battle with Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD). This loss will affect everyone in our school family and the Bureau Valley Community.
The Bureau Valley administration reached out to Valerie’s family and shared the many thoughts and prayers that all in the BV community have and will continue to send their way. To help the family, we offered to share the funeral arrangements directly with our Bureau Valley families. A complete obituary can be read here, https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/bcrnews/name/valerie-frese-obituary?id=33337949.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Saint Matthews Lutheran Church in Princeton, followed by a service at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Scott Schmidt officiating. Memorials may be directed to Valerie’s family in her memory or the MLD Foundation. Online condolences may be sent to www.grant-johnsonfh.com.
I know you join me in extending our heartfelt sympathy to the Frese family in this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Jason R. Stabler, Superintendent

Dear BV Students and Families,
Thursday, February 17, 2022 will be an E-learning Day due to anticipated, inclement weather. Since we had a scheduled 11:00 dismissal, this E-Learning Day will ask all K-12 students to complete their 3 hours of learning remotely (i.e. at home) rather than in-person at the school. A determining factor in this decision was to not require transportation of students to and from school in potentially adverse conditions multiple times over a short period of time.
Teachers will send schoolwork home today and/or post assignments to Google Classroom no later than 8:00 a.m. on Thursday. Teachers will be available via email from 8-11:00 a.m. on Thursday to answer any questions.
Any family who desires a student meal must click here to complete this request form by 1:00 p.m. today (Wednesday, February 16th). Meals shall be picked up at the main entrance of the high school at the Manlius Campus between the hours of 9:30-10:30 a.m.
High school students will not attend the Whiteside Area Career Center (WACC), nor will Co-op students be expected to attend work.
Pre-school trips will be postponed and rescheduled at a later date.
All before and after school extracurricular activities and practices will be canceled on Thursday, February 17th.
By completing the school work with an E-Learning Day, this school day will not need to be made up at the end of the year.
Stay safe and have an enjoyable weekend!
